When we think of Uluwatu, we think of high cliffs, beautiful beach clubs, but also tranquility. Uluwatu is the west coast of the southernmost tip of Bali, and we love this region.
Uluwatu is very different from the rest of the island. You'll still find many quieter areas where you mainly encounter locals, but at the same time, there are also many trendy beach clubs and venues where you can have a great time. This combination makes Uluwatu a fantastic place to visit! The nature is also different; you won't find rice fields and far fewer palm trees. It is also a bit cooler in Uluwatu than in the rest of Bali.

#1 Ulu Cliff House
If we don't know what to do in Uluwatu, we always go back to Ulu Cliff House – it's truly our favorite spot. This is a more luxurious beach club, situated on top of a high cliff. You can relax on a daybed during the day and enjoy a delicious dinner with a magnificent view in the evening. Ulu Cliff House is nice and quiet during the day, creating a very relaxed atmosphere. Unlike all the other luxurious places, there's no entrance fee or minimum spend here. You can just walk in and sit wherever you like. The beach club has a fantastic restaurant, and the prices are comparable to other beach clubs, usually between 100,000 and 150,000 rupiah per dish. Converted to euros, that's less than €10.
TIP: Did you know that Ulu Cliff House is often rented out for events and weddings? If you walk to the edge of the cliff and look down, you'll see a special platform halfway down the cliff where you could perfectly get married. A dream location if you ask us!
#2 Melasti Beach
Melasti Beach is located on the southernmost tip of the island of Bali. It's a beautiful beach that has only recently gained more recognition, mainly due to the lovely beach clubs appearing here. The sand is white, and the sea is blue. The beach is especially known for the high cliffs you look up at, as the other clubs in Uluwatu are actually situated on top of the cliffs. This makes this place unique. If you're wondering what to do on a given day, a visit to Melasti Beach is definitely recommended! You'll find large luxury beach clubs as well as warungs on the beach. So there's something for everyone. Access to the beach costs around 20,000 for a scooter, which is only about 1.30 euros.

#3 Palmilla
Palmilla is the most famous beach club on Melasti Beach. Perhaps you've seen this beach club on Instagram, as its photos often go viral due to the unique surroundings. The atmosphere is good, and it's generally nice and quiet. You can choose to rent a daybed, or just come by for something to eat and drink. Please note that you have to pay a 100,000 rupiah entrance fee per person, but in return, you get a bottle of water or a towel inside. 100,000 Rupiah is roughly €6.50, so it's quite reasonable. Palmilla is primarily a beach club that offers a beautiful view of the high cliff, unlike other beach clubs in Uluwatu which are located on top of the cliffs. Is Palmilla not for you? There are a few other beach clubs to be found on the beach. TIP: You can't leave Bali without trying the famous smoothie bowl.
#4 Savaya Bali - OMNIA
Do you want absolute luxury and a moment among the jet set? Then you should visit Savaya Bali, formerly known as OMNIA. This is a beach club where it's all about seeing and being seen, and money is no object. This beach club is situated 100 meters high and offers a magnificent view. There are many luxurious beach clubs in Bali, but none quite like this one. Be aware that there is a high minimum spend. The minimum age is also 21, so children are not allowed. The entrance fee is 250,000 rupiah per person. This cannot be exchanged for food or drinks, and you won't be assigned a daybed or sofa. You can then use the floating bar above the cliff. This all sounds a bit expensive, but that's just part of the experience here. In return, you get delicious food, super service, and an amazing view! That's why we still thought it was cool to have been here, because there aren't many places as luxurious as this in Bali.
#5 Padang Padang Beach
Padang Padang Beach is a beautiful and small white sand beach. You can enter for 15,000 rupiah, and parking only costs 1,000 rupiah, which is less than €0.06. Your scooter is also guarded there. A bizarre difference compared to the high parking costs in the Netherlands. Be careful, there are sometimes many monkeys at the entrance to the beach. This means you should keep your belongings close and put anything loose into your bag, because before you know it, they'll grab something. Therefore, pay close attention as you walk down the beautiful path between the rocks.
TIP: Padang Padang Beach is now known as a tourist attraction, so you can expect not to be alone on the beach. Do you want to be? Then go very early in the morning, when it's still wonderfully quiet. You can also take private surfing lessons here for 350,000 Rupiah; there's a good chance you'll be standing up within 2 hours!
#6 Bingin Beach
Bingin Beach is a lesser-known beach and not well signposted at all, but precisely because of that, it's very nice to visit. When searching for the beach, Google Maps directs you down a strange road for the last 300 meters, but don't do that. Before you turn off, you'll see a parking lot where you can park for 10,000 rupiah. From here, you have to continue on foot, but nothing is indicated anywhere. When you walk off the parking lot towards the sea, you need to turn right into a narrow alley. Immediately after that, turn left into another narrow alley until you descend further and further. The easiest way is to follow the signs for Kelly's Warung. Until a sign indicates to turn left, then turn right, and you'll end up on the beach. A beach where you mainly encounter locals and many foreigners living here in Bali. It's a narrow white sandy beach, with a few nice restaurants that offer beautiful views over the sea. The rocks on the beach have also taken on peculiar shapes, making this beach unique.
#7 Stay around Bingin and Padang Padang
The best region to stay is around Bingin and Padang Padang. This is because there are many fun and especially trendy eateries here. This makes it feel a bit like Canggu, only much quieter. The number of restaurants in this area are too many to list. The best thing to do is to just drive around on your scooter, and you'll quickly see trendy hang-out spots everywhere, with the nicest interiors, full of people. To visit them all, it's best to have your breakfast, lunch, and dinner somewhere different. Sounds good, right? We really do recommend renting a scooter in this region; you can do so for between 60,000 and 90,000 per day, which is about 5 euros. It's a lot quieter than in Seminyak, so if you don't like driving in busy traffic, that's not a problem in this region. You can always avoid the main roads and cruise around wonderfully on your scooter. TIP: In Bali, always make sure you have your driver's license and your international driving permit with you. It can happen that they check for these.
#8 Suluban Beach
Suluban Beach is also known as Blue Point Beach. This is a very small white sandy beach hidden among the rocks. Many surfers enter the water here to ride the big waves. If you're a beginner surfer, you'll unfortunately have to skip this spot for now. This is where you'll find the highest waves on the island. When it's low tide, you can lie there with a towel, but at high tide, the small beach disappears again. This makes the beach extra special.
During our previous trips to Uluwatu Bali before Corona, this was truly a beautiful place with a magnificent descent along the rocks. However, now you can see the consequences of the Corona period and that the island was almost closed for 2 years. The path down is currently a bit dilapidated, and half of the shops are closed. But it's still definitely worth going!
TIP: When you're down (and it's low tide), walk left between the high rocks. You can take perfect photos here! You just sometimes have to run when a high wave comes in ;).
#9 Single Fin
Single Fin is a well-known hangout spot above Suluban Beach. From the cliff, you can watch the surfers below in the sea. This place is also known for its beautiful sunset. Around that time, it can get very busy, but during the day, there's always a spot to be found. It's very low-key, and you can just walk in. There's no entrance fee or minimum spend. Just a wonderful place to sit, enjoy a bite and a drink, and dream away to the sound of the high waves crashing against the cliffs.
#10 GWK Monument
You can already see the GWK monument across the sea from Seminyak, that's how massive the statue is. This makes it very impressive to behold. When you drive through Uluwatu Bali, you can also admire it well from several streets. The GWK appears in all hotspot lists, and is therefore very touristy. You pay quite a lot to enter the park and have to pay again if you want to go inside the statue. It is incredibly beautifully made and took years to complete, so we completely understand if you want to visit it once, as we did. Afterwards, we find the park around it too commercial, and the statue more beautiful to admire from a distance. But don't let that stop you, and explore for yourself!
#11 Uluwatu Temple
This is the most famous temple in Uluwatu Bali, situated on top of a high cliff, offering magnificent views of the ocean. The place is full of monkeys, so keep all your belongings close, because before you know it, they'll snatch your glasses. Fortunately, there's always a local woman nearby who can exchange your glasses for some peanuts. The temple is very touristy, but the view makes it very special. Traditional dance performances are also often held here during sunset. This makes it a magical place and gives a special Balinese feeling, which is why it's truly one that shouldn't be missing from our Uluwatu hotspots. Especially the combination with the dance and the music. There is no more beautiful place in Bali to see this. For the dates, it's best to keep an eye on the temple's website, as they can change.
