Ubud is a must-visit place in Bali. It's located more inland and is known for its beautiful green nature and surrounding rice fields. It's no wonder that this is one of the most popular spots to go when you're in Bali. We've listed our favorite hotspots, restaurants, and tips so you'll always have something to do during your time in Ubud!
#1 Jungle Fish
In our opinion, Jungle Fish is an absolute hotspot in Ubud and therefore shouldn't be missed during your visit to Ubud. It's our personal favorite, not only because everything looks perfect, but also because of the ultimate tranquility you experience here. The moment you step into this resort, you'll relax. It's never crowded, and you'll really only find people staying at the resort itself. But lucky you, you can also just go there for lunch or to spend a day by the pool. There's no entrance fee for the restaurant, but if you want to rent a daybed, you'll have to pay something. Believe us, it's worth it! TIP: If it's within your budget, just book a night at the resort and enjoy ultimate relaxation. Plus, they also have a wonderful spa!
#2 Manuaba Waterfall
If you're wondering what to do, you'll find many amazing waterfalls in the interior of Bali that you can visit. Such as the Manuaba Waterfall, which is perhaps the closest to the center of Ubud, Bali. This might even be our new favorite! Why? It only opened in 2018 and is still a hidden gem, but in the future, it will certainly become a busy hotspot, so seize the opportunity! What makes this waterfall extra special is that you walk in a loop, so you see something new all the time. The route isn't too long, and you can complete the entire circuit in about 20 minutes. A tip from us, bring your water shoes! When you arrive at the waterfall, you'll totally understand why. The entrance fee is only 10,000 rupiah per person, which is about 70 cents.
#3 The Kayon Jungle Resort
The Kayon Jungle Resort has been a true hotspot in Ubud for years. This is because it has one of the largest jungle pool bars on the island. They have multiple swimming pools at different levels, overlooking the Ubud jungle. There's also always a DJ spinning some great tunes. These kinds of jungle clubs can perhaps only be found in Ubud Bali, and they are definitely a must-visit during your trip.
Tip: Please note that children are not allowed in the pool bar because it is too dangerous among all those hanging pools. Children are welcome in the restaurant. You also have a beautiful view here. As a family, it's better to choose a different spot, but if you're with friends or without kids, we definitely wouldn't skip this place!
#4 Campuan Ridge Walk
If you're staying in the center of Ubud, you shouldn't miss this gem of tranquility. The Campuan Ridge Walk is an oasis of peace amidst all the hustle and bustle of Ubud center, which is why it has been a hotspot in Ubud for years. It's a beautiful walk of about 2 km, starting in the center of Ubud. It's called a ridge walk because you actually walk over a hill, with the Ubud Jungle on both sides. Tip: Go early in the morning or during sunset, because there is no shade at the top of the hill, so it gets quite sweaty.
#5 The Ubud Market
You can't have been to Ubud Bali without visiting the Ubud Market. In the morning, this is a traditional Balinese market, and after 9:00 AM, it transforms into a market full of souvenirs. You can find nice dresses, bags, and sarongs here. They often quote a price between 150,000 and 200,000 rupiah per item, but generally, you can bargain down about 30%. The question is how much you want to bargain yourself, because converted, they often don't ask for more than ten euros.
#6 Café Lotus
Just coming from the bustling Ubud Market and ready for a drink or something to eat? Then stop at Café Lotus. It's practically next door, and although it's not the most beautiful restaurant inside, the view is magnificent! It overlooks the sacred water temple, which is why this spot deserves a place on the Hotspots in Ubud list.
#7 Cafe Luna
Ubud is a bit more traditional, and you can see that reflected in the restaurants in the center. Café Luna also has this traditional look and is a good spot to relax after shopping. The cakes here are very tasty. A cake with a coconut? In Ubud Bali, you can!
#8 Tegalalang Rice Terrace
Tegalalang Rice Terrace is perhaps the most famous in all of Bali. This is because it is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site. What makes these rice fields unique is the enormous height differences in a small area. The entrance fee is about 25,000 rupiah per person. It's very nice to visit when you're there, but over the years, this beautiful piece of land has become a bit commercialized. Psst... We've mentioned our favorite rice fields as a tip below!
#9 Jatiluwih Rice Terrace
Okay, Jatiluwih may not be in Ubud, but personally, it's our favorite! Especially when compared to Tegalalang Rice Terrace, Jatiluwih is not nearly as touristy and much more expansive. That's why we think it deserves a spot on the list of hotspots! We're curious which one you prefer!
#10 Rent a scooter in Ubud Bali
The best way to explore these hotspots is by renting a scooter. It's really not expensive, often between 65,000 and 100,000 Rupiah per day. That's not even more than €7.50 per day. A liter of gasoline in Bali costs less than 0.70 cents, and the scooter is also quite fuel-efficient!
Ask the reception of your hotel or your Airbnb contact person for a scooter, and it's quickly arranged. Often, you don't even need to show your passport or anything; you just get the keys.
In Bali, you'll always get a motor scooter, which has more power than you might be used to from scooters in the Netherlands. But that's the standard here. You'll also need this if you plan a trip to, for example, Canggu or the north of Bali. Be careful, and everything will be fine!
