The Enchanting Gili Islands: A Paradisiacal Escape with Bali Lifestyle
In the crystal-clear waters of the Indian Ocean lie the enchanting Gili Islands, a trio of small, paradisiacal islands off the coast of Lombok and Bali. These hidden gems are renowned for their pristine beauty, white sandy beaches, colorful coral reefs, and relaxed atmosphere. For travelers seeking a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the mainland, the Gili Islands are the perfect destination. As Hippie Monkey, we're happy to give you some great tips to make your trip unforgettable!

The Gili Islands: An Overview
The Gili Islands consist of three islands: Gili Trawangan, Gili Air, and Gili Meno. While each island has its own unique charm, they all share a common characteristic: an idyllic environment that invites total relaxation.
Gili Trawangan: Known as the party island of the three, Gili Trawangan mainly attracts young travelers looking for a vibrant nightlife and lively atmosphere. You can party here until late at night, so you should enjoy that. Despite the island's reputation as a party destination, it also has quiet spots where visitors can enjoy beautiful sunsets and tranquil beaches.
Gili Air: Gili Air lies between Gili Trawangan and Gili Meno in size and atmosphere. The island offers a perfect balance between relaxation and activities. With its charming villages, quiet beaches, and friendly atmosphere, Gili Air is ideal for families and couples looking for a more intimate experience. TIP: This is our personal favorite! There are no parties here in the evenings, but there are many nice spots and restaurants to entertain you.

Gili Meno: The smallest and most secluded of the three islands, Gili Meno, is known as the quietest and most peaceful island. Here, visitors can enjoy solitude and seclusion amidst a breathtaking natural environment. We found Gili Meno beautiful. Sometimes you feel like you are the only one on the island. It can sometimes be boring because of this, as there are few restaurants or hotspots. What you can also do is take a boat taxi here for a day, because you have really beautiful snorkeling spots here!

Activities on the Gili Islands
Whether you're looking for adventure or pure relaxation, the Gili Islands have something for everyone.
Diving and Snorkeling: The waters around the Gili Islands are teeming with colorful coral reefs and an abundance of marine life, making them a paradise for divers and snorkelers. Underwater explorers can enjoy spectacular views of colorful fish, turtles, sharks, and more. You can book snorkeling tours everywhere, but you can also rent a snorkeling set for 2/3 euros a day and walk into the water yourself.
Beach Activities: With their powdery white sand beaches, the Gili Islands are the ideal place to relax and sunbathe. Visitors can also enjoy activities such as beach volleyball, kayaking, and paddleboarding.
Cycling Tours: Since motorized vehicles are prohibited on the Gili Islands, cycling is the most popular form of transportation. Rent a bicycle and explore the quiet paths that wind through lush landscapes, past traditional villages, and beautiful viewpoints.
Yoga and Wellness: For those seeking inner peace and rejuvenation, the Gili Islands offer a range of wellness activities, including beach yoga classes, meditation, and spa treatments.

How to get to the Gili Islands?
The best way to get to the Gili Islands is to book a boat from PadangBai in Bali. Most boat trips to the Gili Islands and Lombok depart from there. Our tip is to book with Ekayaja or Bluewater. These are the best fast boats to book. Otherwise, you run the risk of ending up on a very small boat, without air conditioning, and getting very seasick. We also recommend booking your tickets through the official website of these organizations at least one day in advance. If you book at the harbor itself, the prices are often twice as expensive.
How do you get to PadangBai then? We simply booked a Grab Car from Canggu on the same day, which took us all the way to PadangBai for about 15 euros.

Transportation on the Gili Islands?
There are no cars or motorcycles on the Gili Islands. You only have bicycles, electric scooters, or horse taxis. If your hotel is further from the harbor, we recommend using the horse taxi. After that, you can walk or cycle everywhere perfectly. It is also possible to go island hopping with boat taxis. For example, you can choose to go out for an evening on Gili Trawangan, while staying on one of the other islands.
Do you want to go with kids?
We understand that it is super exciting to travel with small children to a country like Indonesia, and especially to these kinds of small islands. You will have to take the boat and keep in mind that they do not get life jackets. Of course, there is also no hospital on the islands, but there is a kind of doctor's office. These are certainly risks, but if that doesn't scare you, then we definitely recommend doing it! We did that too and have not regretted it for a moment. We found Gili Air a nice place with the children. The bicycles even have child seats on the back.
To go or not to go?
Definitely! These are the bounty islands that will complete your trip to Indonesia. We enjoyed the most beautiful sunsets here and the atmosphere on the islands is unique and unprecedented.
